*************************************

Since its inception in 2012, NASAโ€™s International Space Apps Challenge has become the worldโ€™s largest global hackathon, engaging thousands of citizens across the globe to use NASAโ€™s open data to build innovative solutions to challenges we face on Earth and in space.

Congratulations to all the Global Award Nominees and Local People’s Choice Awardees of NASA Space Apps Challenge 2021 organized by NASO

Congratulations to all the Global Award Nominees and Local People’s Choice Awardees of NASA Space Apps Challenge 2020 organized by NASO

Space Apps inspires local communities to come together, think intensely, and create solutions to important problems. Each year, Space Apps engages thousands of individuals in cities around the world to work with NASAโ€™s open source data in a 48-hour sprint. Teams of technologists, scientists, designers, entrepreneurs, artists, and others collaborate to answer some of the most pressing challenges on Earth and in space.

Nepal started hosting Space Apps Challenge in 2013 and Nepal Astronomical Society (NASO) decided to bring this opportunity closer to you. Hence, we started hosting it in collaboration with different organizations since 2019.

In 2019, we hosted Space Apps Challenges Biratnagar and Kathmandu with our local collaborators. Since 2020, our team started organizing NASA Space Apps with our own team and other local and national partners.

We have successfully organized NASA Space Apps Challenge 2020 and 2021 in eight different locations in Nepal. We have also contributed particularly for the South and Central Region of the NASA Space Apps COVID-19 Challenge 2020 and and Earth Observation Dashboard Hackathon in 2021 respectively.

This page is to give you update about our NASA Space Apps Challenges in Nepal. Please visit this page frequently for latest updates about our event near your cities. Thank you!

What is Space Apps?

Space Apps is an international hackathon for coders, scientists, designers, storytellers, makers, builders, technologists, and others in cities around the world, where teams engage with the National Aeronautics and Space Administrationโ€™s free and open data to address real-world problems on Earth and in space.

Space Apps gives you the opportunity to bring projects to life for a wide range of applications. We are looking forward to seeing what innovative, creative ideas you bring to the community this year.

Space Apps is your chance to experience, experiment, and explore solutions to our universeโ€™s biggest challenges!

As the countdown to our ninth year of Space Apps continues, we are increasingly eager to have problem-solvers of all walks of life join us on the journey. Keep an eye out for upcoming information on how you can get involved this year, whether hosting a Space Apps event in your community, rolling up your sleeves and participating, or helping students, professionals, engineers, makers, artists, coders, and storytellers on their intrepid travels into Space Apps.

Why NASO is promoting this International hackathon in Nepal?

Nepal has witnessed this program in 2013 for the first time yet it was mainly organized in Kathmandu Valley only. Since, we work for astronomy and space science, we find it engaging for youths in the country seeking a platform to showcase their innovative approaches to solve different problems related to earth, space and humanity.

Our office has been receiving many requests from people from all corner of Nepal which motivated us to decide to host this challenge all seven provinces of Nepal. Year 2022 will be the third time this program going to different cities of Nepal at such large scale!

Our experience organizing NASA Space Apps Challenges in Nepal

We organized NASA  Space Apps 2019 in Nepal at two different cities which brought together more 29,000 participants at 225 events in 71 countries including Nepal. Also, we organized and supported NASA Space Apps COVID-19 Challenge during May 30-31, 2020 in Nepal which concluded with over 15,000 participants from 150 countries including Nepal.

Where to get latest information about these challenges by NASO?

We are currently looking for volunteers to work on our website www.spaceappsnepal.org which will be one stop solution for all the information related to the NASA Space Apps Challenges in Nepal. If you are interested to join our team, please send your CV to jobs[at]nepalstronomicalsociety.org

Besides, we will be updating the latest information at www.nepalastronomicalsociety.org/spaceapps . you can also get updates in our social media channels.
